Floyd Snr 'not to blame'

Team Hatton have moved quickly to stop Floyd Mayweather Snr taking the blame for the devastating defeat at the hands of Manny Pacquiao - insisting he is merely a "consultant".

The 56-year-old trainer had courted controversy in the days before the MGM Grand showpiece, which ended in disaster as the Hitman was knocked out inside two rounds by Manny Pacquiao.

Many people immediately pointed the finger at Mayweather Snr, but Hatton Promotions chief executive has revealed that Lee Beard actually had a far greater input.

"It's an interesting point but the one person to blame is Pacquiao," said Williams. "Lee's a lot more involved with Ricky Hatton than Floyd Mayweather is.

"Floyd Mayweather was brought in for 12 weeks to do a job and that's the end of it. He's finished now and we don't know what's going to happen.

"Lee Beard's with Hatton Promotions 365 days a year, Floyd Mayweather's there for 12 weeks before a fight and that's the difference. Probably the best way to describe (Floyd) is that he's on board as a consultant.

"Mayweather's come in to do a specific job."

Mayweather turned up at the MGM Grand with around an hour to go before the biggest fight of Hatton's career.

He also failed to attend the official post-fight press conference having recommended, within minutes of the second-round loss, that the Mancunian should retire.

But amazingly he still insisted he is a better trainer than arch rival Freddie Roach, the man behind Pacquiao's rise to pound-for-pound supremacy.

"Freddie Roach's man listened, my man didn't and I'm not going to take anything (away) from him," he said. "He overshadowed me today, but is he a better trainer than me? Hell no."

"He (Hatton) should have kept his hands up better. If you want to talk about the mistake, that was the mistake - something I've been preaching and preaching and preaching about."
