Ricky Hatton seemed amused at the verbal spat between his coach Floyd Mayweather Sr. and Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach.
Hatton said, however, that it’s a different matter when it comes to Roach’s prediction that Pacquiao will knock him out in three rounds.
“I have great respect for him (Roach),” Hatton told Gareth Davies of Telegraph.co.uk. “But I felt a bit insulted when he said in Los Angeles that Manny will win in three rounds.”
While he acknowledged Pacquiao’s punching power, Hatton said the Filipino will face a different fight with him.
The British boxer said he will be the “biggest” guy that Pacquiao would face.
"Bearing in mind that he has fought a lot smaller men than me, and I have been in with a few monsters,” said Hatton.
"I'm not saying Manny can't knock me out, but if anyone is going to win in three rounds, I think I would be the safer bet to do that to him," he added.
Hatton made the statement after Roach has given Pacquiao nine minutes to put the British boxer away on their May 2 fight date in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“I told Manny I would be very disappointed in him if he didn’t have Hatton stopped by the third round,” said Roach, who has engaged Hatton's trainer Mayweather Sr. in a bitter word war.
Roach made the "three-round" prediction after reportedly seeing Hatton's weaknesses.
"Hatton is not fundamentally sound as a fighter – he keeps his chin up. He is the perfect opponent for Manny,” he said.
“You’re going to hear a lot of glass breaking when Manny starts playing his ‘chin music concerto’ on Hatton. You’re going to see who has the chops to play this masterpiece on May 2.”
Roach said Pacquiao will go for Hatton’s chin, saying “it’s the money shot.”
