Hatton ‘5 percent better now’

HOW VALUABLE is Floyd Mayweather Sr. to Ricky Hatton’s corner? According to the British “Hitman,” Mayweather has given him a five percent boost in performance.

“Floyd Sr. has put that extra five percent to my game at the highest level,” Hatton told Fightnews.com.

According to Hatton, who’ll be staking his International Boxing Organization junior welterweight crown against Manny Pacquiao on May 2 in Las Vegas, Mayweather helped improve his defense, increased his ability to use jabs and taught him to throw more combinations.

Hatton believes these new weapons have reinvigorated him to the point that, seven weeks into training camp, he feels he’s in the best shape of his boxing career.

That speaks volumes considering that Hatton has only been beaten once, by the son of Mayweather – Floyd Jr. The Briton remains unscathed at 140 pounds after 12 years and 43 fights.

Having watched virtually all tapes of Pacquiao’s fights, Hatton said he noticed that the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter doesn’t like sustained pressure.

Hatton said that’s exactly what he intended to do on fight night: Put a lot of pressure on Pacquiao, without neglecting his defense.

“I don’t believe he will be able to take the combination of my pressure and my power at 140 pounds,” said Hatton, pointing out that the Filipino superstar has fought over 130 pounds only twice.
