Aside from what he claimed as Ricky Hatton’s “lack of boxing fundamentals”, Freddie Roach said Manny Pacquiao’s ability to finish his opponent spells trouble for the British boxing superstar.
“I’ve studied Hatton for two months now and I’m very confident about Manny’s chances,” Roach said, in a BoxingScene.com interview.
He said that Hatton has a tendency to get hit “a lot”.
“A lot of guys have hurt him, but no one’s ever finished him when they had him hurt,” Roach said.
“Manny Pacquiao is a finisher. I think he’s going to bust him up and stop him within three rounds,” he added.
Since both Pacquiao and Hatton never back down during fights, Roach said he expects an explosive match up that could rival an all-action boxing match in the past.
“It’ll be another Thomas Hearns-Marvin Hagler fight, I believe,” said Roach.
The Hearns-Hagler war in 1985 was dubbed as among the best fights in history of the middleweight division. Both fighters came in brawling it out from the opening bell until Round 2 when Hearns was knocked out.
Like the Hearn-Hagler match, Roach said the Pacquiao-Hatton superfight will be “very exciting for as long as it lasts,” he said.
The anxiously waited Pacquiao-Hatton match is slated to take place on May 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
